SHINE Project – Public Play

Posted by on Nov 19, 2014 in Events and Activities, Motivational and Talks, Stories and Articles |

On the 23rd of November 2014, the children from our SHINE Project staged a performance at the Tan Sri Soma Hall, Wisma Tun Sambanthan. Western Digital, Kuala Lumpur helped to organize the event and many of their employees volunteered to ensure the success of the event. They also provided transportation for the children and their parents to the venue. Once the children took the stage, the audience were cheering and in full support of these first-time performers. Though some of the children were noticeably unnerved by having to perform to a crowded audience, they quickly warmed up to the task and put on a great show for the next 2 hours. The highlight of the event was the “Little Krishna and His Magical Flute” play, which earned a huge ovation from the supportive audience. This was followed by a number of dance routines and solo speeches, where the kids displayed great courage and adaptability. Another play, based on the hit animated movie “Frozen”, provided a lot of laughs and entertainment for the audience. Overall, the event was a great showcase of the children’s improvement over the past year and was well appreciated by the parents and audience. View the Photo Gallery...

Over the past few months, Helping Hands has been working with the Tech Outreach Malaysia Programme in their mission to identify and help underprivileged women with potential to excel in business around the Klang Valley area. Tech Outreach is a supported by Khazanah Malaysia and works under the “Grameen Micro-Credit Financing” model. Through a series of interviews and Q&As, 75 women were shortlisted to receive the RM 2,000 business start up loan and be mentored by the Tech Outreach officials to ensure their business becomes a success. On the 1st of November, the selected women were presented with their cheques at the Brickfields Asia College, PJ. As part of the Helping Hands initiative, we will monitor and closely follow up on 21 women who fall under our Business Passport project and are going to start their business lives with the Tech Outreach Malaysia Programme.
