Kannan Chokkalingam is an Indian citizen married to a Malaysian citizen. He has three children and they are all Malaysian citizens. While Kannan has been in the country since the age of two and married legally for the past 11 years, he was still finding it difficult apply for the IC. He approached Helping Hands. We informed him that while a foreign lady after 2 years of PR can apply for citizenship, a foreign man can apply only after 12 years of residing in the country. However we advised his that he can appeal against it if the marriage is legal in Malaysia and if he has children. Following our advice, Kannan appealed to the National Registration Department (NRD) and provided all the documents required. His appeal was upheld and was given a letter of eligibility for applying for Malaysian citizenship. Our officials assisted him in the application and follow up procedures. He received his citizenship within six months of application and is very appreciative for all the assistance rendered.
Vijayalakshmi Arumugam is an Indian citizen, married to a Malaysian citizen in the year 1977. She has two grown up children and they are all Malaysian citizen. While she had received her Permanent Resident status long back, she has been trying to apply for the Malaysian Citizenship. She heard of Helping Hands through a friend and approached us for advice. Our official realised that she has fulfilled all the requirements to apply for Malaysian Citizenship and hence assisted her in the application and follow up procedures. She received her citizenship within six months of application and is very appreciative for all the assistance rendered.
Jamuna a/p Alagapan was the usual youngster from Kepong with not much interest in her studies. Her mother Madam Nagamah is a single mother and was very worried about the future of her daughter. She heard about Helping Hands though one of her friends and contacted us to get advice. Our official met Jamuna personally and found out that she was interested in baking and advised her to take a course at vocational training centre. She was enrolled for a free baking course for six months. Jamuna has completed her baking course successfully and has already got a job in Penang. Jamuna’s mother, Madam Nagamah is very grateful to Helping Hands for helping her daughter secure a future for her daughter.
Latchumy a/p Kanapathy is a housewife depending solely on her husband’s income for her family expenses. While she was interested in tailoring, she didn’t have the finance to buy a sewing machine. She approached Helping Hands for advice on how she can supplement the family income without burdening the husband more. We advised her to apply for a sewing machine through 1Azam. We assisted them in the process of application and follow-up with the authorities. She has already received the sewing machine and operates a stall doing tailoring business.
Navamanee a/p Amaradass has four school-going children. To support her family she wanted to start a small tailoring stall but she was not able to afford it. She approached Helping Hands to help her. Our officials advised her to apply for 1Azam from the Ministry of Women. We are happy to state that her request has been approved and she is a proud owner of a sewing machine with which she does part time tailoring to earn some extra income.
Juditha Usharani AnthonysamyBusiness
Juditha Usharani a/p Anthonysamy is an enterprising mother of two college going children. She runs a kiosk in Cyberjaya along with her husband. Due to a nerve disorder, her husband is unable to work. While business is good, she was unable to find finance to expand it. She approached Helping Hands for assistance. Our officials informed her on the various loans available and advised her to apply for a loan from TEKUN. We assisted her in the process of application and followed up for her. Juditha’s loan has been approved and also cheque received. She has used the loan amount to expand her business by providing more supplies for her customers.
Anbarassi KuruppahWelfare & Others
Anbarassi a/p Kuruppah is single mother of four children. Her husband passed away some years back. She does cleaning jobs to look after her children. She had lost all her documents including her husband’s death certificate and there was unable to get any help from anywhere. She heard about Helping Hands through one of her son’s school teacher and had contacted us. We helped her re-apply for her husband’s death certificate and also advised her to apply for the PPR flats. She has already applied for the PPR flat and waiting for a response from DBKL.
Maleha BatumalayWelfare & Others
Maleha a/p Batumalay is a single mother of three children. She is a housewife and does not have any business knowhow or the finance to start up anything new. She approached Helping Hands for assistance. Our officials enquired with her about her interests and her circumstances and advised her to apply for ice blender/shaver through 1Azam. She has already received the equipment and with the help of it, she has started a small stall selling cendol etc. This has helped Meleha earn some income.
Sheladevi a/p Surianarayanan is a married mother of three school going children. She operates a 24 hour food stall near a Chinese gaming centre near Jinjang Utara. She approached Helping Hands to assist her apply for the DBKL license for her stall. We helped in the process of application of the license. We also advised her to join Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) to expand her stall business. With the help of Helping Hands she has already joined the existing AIM group at Kepong and have taken the first loan.
Jayasri SurianarayananWelfare & Others
Jayasri A/p Surianarayanan lives with her husband and four children in a rumah panjang. As her husband’s income is not enough to support the family, she decided to do something to supplement it. As she was good at cooking, she decided to have a food stall near her house. She applied for a loan from Amanah Ikhtiar, Malaysia which helped her to further expand for the business. She has been longing to have a place of her own but has been unable due to the high cost of houses. Helping Hands officials advised her to apply for the low cost houses provided by the government and helped them in the application. Her application has been approved and soon she will be a proud owner of a house.

Sarita a/p Surianarayanan lives in a rumah panjang with her four school going children. Her husband works in the contract business. She has a small food stall through which earns some extra income to support her family. It’s been her dream to live in a house of her own. The cost of the houses are so high nowadays that it will be a daunting task to pay the loans. Helping Hands official advised her to apply for the low cost houses provided by the government and also helped her in the application. We are happy to state that her application has been approved and she will soon be a proud owner of a house.
Mageswari A/P Krishnan is a housewife with 2 children. The financial constraint drove her interest in starting a tailoring business on her own.She came to know about Helping Hands through her friend and joined a business group in Cheras. She has already procured her first loan and is very excited to expand her business.
